BLAIN SUPPLY & BLAIN’S FARM & FLEET
STORES SELECT |
|
MICROS-RETAIL FOR LOSS PREVENTION |
|
|
|
Columbia, MD, January 9, 2008 —
MICROS-Retail, the retail solutions division of MICROS
Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: MCRS), which includes its
subsidiary companies Datavantage, CommercialWare and
eOne Group, today announced that Blain Supply and
Blain’s Farm & Fleet stores have implemented
MICROS-Retail’s XBR®: Loss Prevention and Store
Analytics. With the upgrade to the new solution, the
stores are very easily able to set up control thresholds
in order to alert the point of sale (POS) associates to
suspicious activity and then quickly resolve any issues.
Founded in 1955, Blain’s Farm & Fleet stores (www.farmandfleet.com)
are specialty discount retailers with 33 locations
throughout Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. Receiving
management, merchandising and distribution services from
Blain Supply, Inc., each retail store is a division of
one of the Farm and Fleet Corporations. The company
remains steadfast in its commitment to offering
customers high quality products, competitive prices and
reliable service.
“Because of XBR®’s quick implementation time and
ease-of-use, MICROS-Retail was able to train us on the
product using our own live data,” said Gary Hilt, vice
president of loss prevention, Blain Supply, Inc. “From
the start we saw immediate cost benefits from the
improved efficiency of our corporate investigators while
researching suspicious transactions.”
As the most widely used loss prevention and store data
analysis tool, XBR® uses exception-based reporting
methods to easily identify, track, manage and resolve
issues such as fraudulent transactions, productivity
concerns and training or compliance issues. The robust
analysis features and multiple report types make it
easier to use than the traditional in-house systems. The
application offers retailers many opportunities for
increased efficiency and ease-of-use. For example, XBR®
provides a Java and browserbased
web client portal to enable remote loss prevention and
field management
personnel to easily access and run queries over the
Internet. This allows staff to work anywhere and still
access key analytics to aid decision-making.
“Blain Supply and Blain’s Farm & Fleet stores knew it
needed a loss prevention solution because of the volume
of transactions that were occurring per store, and did a
competitive search to find the best option,” said John
Gularson, Senior Vice President and Managing Director,
MICROS-Retail. “As we’ve seen many times before, XBR®
gave Blain Supply and Blain’s Farm & Fleet stores the
ability to act quickly to solve transaction fraud and
help improve productivity.”

retail solutions — including web commerce,
point-of-sale, order management, customer service,
inventory and fulfillment systems, business analytics,
loss prevention and marketing applications — along with
an array of professional services to support customers
from implementation through extension and growth.
The MICROS-Retail division is led by Managing Director
John Gularson, COO Chaz Napoli, and CTO Jane Cannon,
with distributed headquarters in Columbia, Maryland,
Cleveland, Ohio and Westboro, Massachusetts.
Additionally, there are offices located around the world
to service retail establishments in North America, Latin
America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Each organization brings experienced executives, a
diversified customer base and depth and breath of retail
technology. Serving over 500 brands and retailers
including Patagonia, Abercrombie & Fitch, Party Land,
Chico's, J.Jill, Ritz Camera, Jos. A. Bank, and Helzberg
Diamonds, MICROS-Retail expands upon the tradition of
product excellence and customer dedication established
by Datavantage, CommercialWare and eOne Group.
“In today’s economy, companies need a provider who can
meet their cross-channel needs not just deliver point
solutions, and we believe the merging of our best of
breed acquisitions makes perfect sense for existing and
potential customers,” stated John Gularson, Senior Vice
President and Managing Director, MICROS-Retail. “By
delivering a seamless cross-channel experience through
the web, catalogue, phone, and store, our customers are
able to build greater loyalty.”
“With MICROS-Retail, clients get an integrated,
comprehensive solution-suite that can be tailored to
specific business needs, a true partner that understands
their unique industry and market requirements, and
access to a global network and resources,” continued
Gularson.
“We have been a customer of Datavantage/CommercialWare
for 25 years using the CWDirect suite, direct to
consumer order management, and Store21 point-of-sale to
improve efficiencies in our retail operations. We’re
excited about the progression to MICROS-Retail and look
forward to having complete cross channel visibility to
our customers,” stated Mike Busch, Director of
Information Systems, Patagonia. “The cross-channel
transparency of web, catalog, and store sales will
enhance our ability to provide world class customer
service regardless how the customer chooses to interact
with us.”
Recognizing the value and heritage in their respective
areas, the Datavantage,
CommercialWare and eOne Group products will keep their
names under the MICROSRetail brand. Because the
solutions are available internationally, retailers who
conduct business in multiple geographies will have
consistent technology infrastructures, simplifying IT
issues and cross border operations. And having one
source for their needs provides customers value in
knowing they have a sole accountable party.
“Over the past few years we have watched the retail
industry consolidation, which in some cases can be a
negative for end users,” said Ken Morris, President,
LakeWest Group. “We think the formation of MICROS-Retail
is a win for customers. The company offers a compelling
solution for the marketplace and is an impressive player
because of its deep technology and domain expertise,
global reach and synergy with parent company MICROS
System.”

Datavantage Demonstrates IXRetail
POSlog Integration In
ARTS Pavilion At NRF 2004 Annual Show |
|
|
|
Cleveland, OH – Datavantage, a subsidiary
of MICROS Systems, Inc., demonstrates today the usage of
the IXRetail POS Transaction (POSlog) XML schema in a
show floor integration with multiple vendor
participants. Datavantage’s XBR Loss Prevention
analytics application will consume (or receive) POSlog
messages produced by applications from other developers.
The demonstration is one of several “standards in
action” demonstrations in the ARTS Pavilion at the NRF
93rd Annual Convention & Expo, showing how standards can
help simplify the implementation of corporate based
analytics solutions.
At a summary level, the demonstration shows how
transactions entered in a separate POS, and produced in
a POSlog XML format, are seamlessly read by
Datavantage’s analytics tools. This enables alerts to be
triggered quickly, and permits analysts to run queries
that pinpoint to non-compliance and potential fraud.
“POS data drives most retail analytics applications,”
said Chaz Napoli, President of Datavantage. “While our
clients and technicians have become experts at
integrating with many kinds of T-Logs, we look forward
to the day when the consistent use of the POSlog
standard reduces the time and cost of integrating POS
data and analytics tools.”
Point-of-sale data is the most valuable data in
retailing; it is used in everything from analytics to
sales reports to mission critical inventory and ERP
systems. Integrating POS with new or replacement systems
is often time consuming and costly, yet is still
required due to the pervasiveness of the POS data. A
standard IXRetail XML-based POSlog provides retailers
with three main benefits: easier integration to POS data
without jeopardizing the accuracy and reliability of the
POS systems, best-of-breed selection and flexibility for
future system additions and changes, and help in
reducing implementation costs. More information on ARTS
and standards can be found at
www.nrf-arts.org.

much more.
“Datavantage continues to expand our analytics
capabilities to leverage more and more information from
across the enterprise,” said Raoul Ricard, Executive
Vice President of Datavantage. “Integrating XBR
and UltraLink, through the partnership with Retail
